Immersion Bath Pre-treatment: Venting & Draining Guide
Lasting Quality, Quick Turnaround is our motto here at E-static Powder Coating.
To deliver on this promise, especially for aluminium and galvanised steel products, we utilise an advanced 8-stage immersion bath chemical pre-treatment system. This process is critical for achieving long-term durability and corrosion resistance in the powder-coated finish. However, it requires careful consideration of venting and drainage during the design and manufacturing stages to ensure the best aesthetic outcomes and to mitigate the risk of defects.
While the requirements for venting and drainage are somewhat similar to those needed for hot-dip galvanising (which some of our customers may be familiar with), there are key differences, particularly in the significantly reduced hole size requirements. To better communicate these specifics, the E-static team has developed a Venting & Draining Guide for Immersion Bath Pre-treatment.
What’s Inside the Guide?
Our guide offers detailed instructions on correctly positioning vent and drain holes for various product types. Key sections include:
Positioning Holes: Guidance on where to place holes for optimal flow, avoiding air locks and chemical entrapment.
Hole Sizes: Recommendations on the optimal hole size for efficient venting and draining.
Best Practices: Illustrated examples of good and bad practices across different product types, including baseplates & posts, hollow section frames, and slats & balusters.
Quality & Safety Considerations: Tips to prevent floating, trapped chemicals, and defects.
This guide is available for download on our website here. We encourage all our customers to review this guide to ensure that products are correctly prepared and manufactured for the pre-treatment process. This guide will be an invaluable resource, helping us deliver the best possible finish on your products, reduce turnaround times, and in many cases, eliminate the need for visible drainage and/or hanging holes.
