Looking After Powder Coated Finishes
Over time with exposure to the elements powder coatings may show signs of weathering such as loss of gloss, chalking and slight colour change, however by implementing simple and regular care and maintenance steps you can maximise the life of your powder coated finish.
But firstly, don’t overlook the fact that taking care of the finished coating starts from the time it is collected. For goods packaged for transport, always store items in a cool, dry place away from heat, rain/water and/or direct sunlight. Where goods are to be stored in an external environment or direct sunlight for any period prior to assembly / installation, please unpack goods, remove all packaging materials and keep clear of pooling water or chemicals in order to avoid potential harm to the finished coating.
Cleaning needs can start at the time that products are installed, ensuring that harsh construction materials such as concrete, plaster and paint splashes are removed before they have a chance to dry. Failure to remove these materials at this early stage will require the use of aggressive cleaning materials and techniques with potential damage to the powder coated surface.
In the longer term, just like the paint on your car, a simple regular clean will minimise the effects of weathering and will remove dirt, grime and other build up detrimental to the long term integrity of powder coated finishes.
Each powder manufacturer provides specific care and maintenance information for products in their range and you can download the Care and Maintenance brochures for Interpon Powder Coatings and Dulux Powder and Industrial Coatings products below.
