What is a suitable sealant / adhesive for general powder coating?

We often get asked the question: What sealant / adhesive do you know of that is suitable for powder coating?

Whilst there is a wide variety of sealant and adhesive products on the market, the requirements for a product to be suitable for powder coating are pretty demanding.

The product needs to both allow powder to adhere to the sealant / adhesive through electrostatic spray application and withstand the high temperatures within the powder coat curing oven whilst still retaining its own flexibility and adhesion to the product surface.

One product we have had good success with is Weicon Flex 310 M HT 200 available from Associated Gaskets.

This product is grey in colour and specifically suited to the bonding and sealing of metal components that are to be powder coated. It is also sandable (after curing) to achieve a smooth finish where required. Furthermore it is able to withstand high temperatures (30 min @ 200 Deg C), has excellent aging stability and UV resistance, is neutral curing and free of silicone and solvents.

Please follow the safety and application information from the product supplier when using. As always, take care to make sure the surfaces you are applying the product to are clean, dry and free from any existing corrosion or contaminants. The TDS and SDS for the product are available online from the Associated Gaskets website.

Whilst this product is typically suitable for most general and industrial powder coating projects, please note it is not an approved product for use under the Interpon D, Interpon Meta-plex, Interpon Steelplex, Dulux Alumi-shield or Dulux Steel-shield systems and therefore not be used without prior written approval on projects that specify these extended warranty systems.
